Letter To Members
Dear Members and friends of the QIA,
On 11 July, 2017, the Supreme Court ordered that, subject to a resolution being passed on 25 July, 2017 by a meeting of members of the QIA on the Register of Members as at 29 January, 2015, the winding up of the Queensland Irish Association Friendly Society Ltd be terminated as at 4.00pm on 28 July, 2017.
The Resolution was to appoint a Board of Directors which had been nominated by the Liquidator.
On 25 July, 2017 over 200 former members of the QIA overwhelmingly passed the Resolution.
The consequence was that the “Board of Directors elected pursuant to the Resolution resume(d) the management and control of the QIA at 4.00pm on 28 July, 2017.”
The Board of Directors is:
Jeff Spender – Chairman
Seamus Sullivan – Vice President
John Leahy – Treasurer and Company Secretary
Angela Laylee – Secretary
The office bearers were elected by the Board.
The interim board would like to thank the members of the steering committee and the “veteran members”, who are not on this board and who provided valuable assistance throughout the process of reinstating the QIA; but for those efforts the QIA would have been dissolved some time ago. Those members include Daniel MacDiarmid, Maurice Wren, Kevin Higgins, Billy Fitzgerald, Robert Ward, Garry Burke and Barry Dineen.
We will continue to keep you updated of our progress and hope to reinstate our loyal members very shortly. If you have any enquiries, you can email us at firstname.lastname@example.org
On 28 October, 2017 the QIA will host its first function – An Irish Entertainment Evening to be held at Wests Rugby Club. Details of this function will be circulated via this mailing list and the Board hopes to see all of you there.
The QIA will also be celebrating Christmas with drinks at Wests Rugby Club on 29 November, 2017 so save that date in your diary.
A lunch for the QIA life and senior members will be held at Wests Rugby Club on 11 October, 2017. Please also mark this date in your diary – further details will be circulated shortly.
